About drivers' wives: "If your husband is a truck driver, good luck. If you are a truck driver, appreciate your wife."

A Spanish woman decided to speak to all those brave women who spend days and weeks waiting for their partner to return. She also has a few requests for drivers. Read what Maria Merino wants to tell you.

"If your husband is a truck driver, good luck. If you are a truck driver, appreciate your wife."

The wife of a driver is married to a man who is also married to his work, colleagues and truck.

The drivers' wives make breakfast for them in the middle of the night to spend the next dozen days alone.

They have to learn words they do not even understand.

They have to fight other women who would like to take their place and they believe that this will not happen.

They have to understand that he is tired when he returns and all he needs is sleep.

They have to get used to sudden changes in plans and lonely holidays.

They have to get familiar with engines, wheels, smell of Diesel and accept that they generally raise children by themselves.

No one prepares them for such a life – some of them know that it is worth it though it is difficult... Others give up.

They spent their days listening to them and learning how to love those who get no respect from others.

They witness the frustration that hardly anyone appreciates their work which reflects on their health.

They must be their friends to listen to them, their lovers to love them and their wives to take care of them. They must also understand that they love their job.

To be a wife of a truck driver is to be a unique woman!"

Of course that is the opinion of Mrs Maria Merino but you certainly know some of these "truths". How do you cope with separation?
